Massage is an ancient technique of manual contact on the skin and muscles, which serves to promote relaxation, eliminate tension, decrease pain and stimulate circulation.
It is known that different cultures have used some form of massage for millennia, and although there is a very wide variety of interpretations and specific applications of this practice, today the relaxing or Swedish massage is the most popular in the West for its many benefits to mental and emotional health.
If you have never had a massage or you don't get one very often, an anti-stress massage is the most recommended for you, so that you become familiar with the experience and can try other types of massage later on. Here we explain what it is and what you can expect from it.
In order to get the most out of a relaxing full-body massage session, it is necessary to have a calm, quiet environment at a pleasant temperature. In addition, a special stretcher designed to allow the client to lie down comfortably on his or her stomach without contracting the neck is required.
Our relaxing home massages go right to the comfort of your home, and each therapist arrives ready with a perfectly sterilized, folding massage table.
Normally, the relaxing massages last 90 or 120 minutes, depending on what you indicate, and they are sessions that alternate fast and soft movements, along with slow and deep movements along various muscle groups, with special emphasis on the back, shoulders and neck.
During an anti-stress or decontracting massage session, the masseur will use four basic manipulation techniques, alternating and varying the intensity in such a way that they are both pleasant and capable of releasing muscle tension.
Effleurage: A series of gentle, caressing, broad strokes used to warm and prepare the muscles at the start of the massage, stimulate circulation and detect and loosen "knots". The massages also usually end with a brief return to the effleurage.
Petrissage: This is a slightly firmer and more localised pressure, whose movements "knead" the body by means of pressure, compression and rhythmic rolling. Petrissage helps to loosen and stretch the muscles and promotes detoxification of the tissues.
Vibration: It consists of applying vibration with one or both hands, which can go from soft to intense, in areas that require special work to loosen muscles or nerves.
Tapotement: These are the typical rhythmic taps that the therapist applies to stimulate circulation, the release of endorphins and the regeneration of tissues. Don't worry, it doesn't hurt!
Remember that during an anti-stress massage session, you can always tell your therapist which areas you prefer to have more emphasis on, and which you prefer to avoid.
